Step Therapy Reform Signed into Law in Delaware
Advocates and SAIM Coalition members joined forces in Delaware to pass step therapy reform. With unanimous committee and floor votes, HB 105 had overwhelming support from the legislature. The bill was championed by Melissa Minor-Brown in the House as well as Senator David McBride and Senator Nicole Poore. Before and during the legislative session, outreach and testimony from local advocates was critical in building legislators’ support. Carol Reilly of the Arthritis Foundation, pictured at right, testified at both House and Senate hearings on the bill.
With patients and advocacy groups in attendance, Governor John Carney signed the bill into law on June 18th (pictured above). Delaware patients will now have much needed safety guardrails in place when required to go through step therapy by their insurance company. This new law will go into effect in March 2020.
